Miami is truly deserving of it’s title as the “Magic City.” The area was first inhabited more than one thousand years ago by the Tequesta Indians. It was later claimed for Spain in 1566. When it was founded as a city in 1896, Miami was still a small outpost with only 300 inhabitants. Today, the Miami metropolitan area has a population over 5 million. Greater Miami is made up of many neighborhoods and towns all within Miami-Dade county. The most famous area is Miami Beach: known as the “American Riviera,” and home to fun-filled South Beach, with it’s historic Art Deco District. Miami is a real cultural melting pot, as it is home to the largest Latin American population outside of Latin America.
